Spotify May Introduce High-Quality ‘Supremium’ Subscription To Rival Apple Music
Spotify, which is a highly favored music streaming application along with Apple Music, is known for its user-friendly interface and convenient playlist discovery. However, it has yet to provide a comparable Lossless audio streaming feature like Apple. Nevertheless, this may soon change.
According to Bloomberg, Spotify is preparing to launch a new, more expensive subscription plan, internally dubbed “Supremium,” and that the new tier will feature high-quality audio that “will bring in more revenue and appease investors who have said the company should raise its prices.”
The new tier is likely to be Spotify’s most expensive plan and includes Hi-Fi audio streaming, which the company announced as early as 2021. Bloomberg reports that the company delayed the introduction of Hi-Fi streaming “after its two competitors, Apple Music and Amazon. Music started offering the feature for free as part of its standard packages.”
Competing streaming players, including Apple Music, already offer lossless audio as part of their standard package. In India, users can get Apple Music for Rs 99 or Rs 149 for a family. In contrast, Spotify Premium costs Rs 119, Duo Rs 149 and Family Rs 179.
Apple Music’s aggressive pricing could certainly push Spotify to offer a better deal over time. Additionally, Spotify plans to launch a new “Supremium” tier “in non-US markets first.”
It will be interesting to see how Spotify prices its new Hi-Fi tier in countries like India, where the service is already more expensive than the likes of Apple and Amazon.
